new owners have big plans for cat island golf course Exciting news is coming to Beaufort's Cat Island golf course. The Virginia-based Resort Development Partners purchased Cat Island golf course in June of 2022 with big plans to restore and revitalize the golf course. Since its opening in 1985, the Cat Island golf course struggled changing ownership several times and ultimately closing in 2019.
“As lifelong golfers who recently purchased a home on the Cat Island golf course, we are extremely excited to watch the transformation over the next few months and look forward to joining the club and connecting with our neighbors and the club’s new members,” Cat Island resident Larry Noah told Your Island News. The Cat Island property is now the 6th club in the RDR's portfolio with locations in Pennsylvania, New York, North Carolina, Virginia, Indiana, and now South Carolina. Cat Island golf course brings a unique architectural history to the RDR portfolio, designed by George Cobb, best known for his achievements in the nine-hole, par-3 course he designed for Augusta National. Cat Island golf course is the last course Cobb designed along with the assistance of John LaFoy, who returned to Cat Island weeks ago with the original pencil drawings of the course from 1982 with the efforts to restore the course back to its original design. General Manager, Tim Mervosh, looks forward to bringing the private golf club experience to Beaufort. "The other main attraction is the property itself. It's a gorgeous piece of land. Its got tremendous potential. The homes that are around Cat Island are fantastic," Mervosh shared with Your Island News. The renovations are expected to cost about $1 million and could be open for use as early as Fall of 2022. Early next year, renovations with the clubhouse will begin to bring it up to the RDR brand standard, equiped with a full-service restaurant and bar with an outdoor patio. "By this time next year we should be full steam ahead with any of the amenities that you would find at any private club," Mervosh added. Membership in the private club will be available for a pre-opening initiation fee of $10,000 and monthly dues of $495. Membership will cap at 350 members to provide its members with the exclusive golf experience without being crowded on their own golf course. Berman Property Group is excited about this news and their recent acquisition of 7 N. Point Trail on the Cat Island golf course. BPG is teaming up with Summerall Custom Construction and My Veteran Team to offer a luxury, new-build property that overlooks breathtaking deepwater views on the 16th hole of this soon-to-be-renovated Cat Island golf course.
